Autumn in Ljubljana

I love autumn for its colours- bright reds, yellows, oranges,...every thing some how looks so cheerful (i know every one agrees to this). Here are some pictures I took during the only weekend walk I could do this season at Ljubljana center.

Ljubljanica

Ljubljanica is the river that flows through Ljubljana and hence gives its name to the city. There are a number of bridges crossing this beautiful river, most of them near the city center. The famous Slovene architect Joze Plecnik had designed three bridges (more on Plecnik's architectural marvels in another post), popularly called 'triple bridges' on the river at the city center.
Another famous bridge on this river is called Dragon bridge (It has four dragons on either side of the bridge. These are the dragons one usually sees on the tourist fliers and became synonymous with the city's name and culture).
But I personally like the bridges on the upstream where the river is wider and are relatively less crowded with beautiful views of trees lining up the banks.
The above picture is a relatively small bridge towards the upstream albeit with beautiful views.

A night view of restaurants and cafes lined up on both the banks of the river.

Another view of the river near the upstream during summer. Some more pics coming soon... :)

Slovenia- A little country nestled on the sunny side of Alps

Here I am in Ljubljana for about two years by now. A cute green European city it is, it seems to me a bit apart from all the other cities I have ever visited. It has a peaceful calmness about it which one would not see in any other European capital city. With hills surrounding the place every where and even with in the center of the city, it gives a great opportunity for any one who would like to have a quick get away into woods after an exhausting day-long work. From a typical mid-sized town in India, where I was brought up and a metropolitan city where I had been studying, I found this place very quiet albeit too quiet to start with. From now on I promised myself to post few of my musings through the photos I have taken of the world around me in Slovenia. A photoblog on my travels to other countries in Europe are found here.
I am not sure any more whether travelling interests me more or photography. I guess I love the combination of both since I developed a keen interest in photography due to my visits to various wonderful and beautiful places in Europe.
And yes, finally... here is my very first picture to kick start the series

This is the sight of the Ljubljana market on Saturday mornings. Fresh produce from the local farmers are sold here every day. But saturday mornings tend to get crowded with almost half of Ljubljana city arriving to this particular place for shopping as well as getting together with friends and having a sip of hot coffee in the numerous cafes lining the banks of the river Ljubljanica.
